This innovative approach to leadership is called self-leadership. It integrates traditional executive business coaching with the latest understanding of mindfulness, compassion leadership and emotional regulation techniques. Our approach improves business leaders’ quality of life, resilience, and overall well-being, which they can share with their employees, customers, and loved ones.

About Lou Booth’s Research-Backed Coaching Approach
Self-Leadership Compassionate Coaching was born out of Lou’s love of business coaching and her five years of study and research for a Master’s in Mindfulness Studies from Aberdeen University, where she could bridge ideas from theory to practice. These sessions bridge science with practice, fundamental tools, and resources that you can use immediately in your business role and daily life. Lou will show you how, by developing the qualities of self-compassion, you can reduce the impact of stress and build wellness by using inner psychological resources for resilience.

Below is an example session schedule and an appointment form for discussing improving your personal and business health. I will guide you through the process of balancing challenges with care.
Session 1 – Your Leadership Consultation – We will explore and map your wellness needs, aims, aspirations and goals. Together, we will decide the areas to focus your energy on that will benefit you best. Drawing upon tools from neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, executive coaching, MSc mindfulness, compassion and insights training, I will teach you how to fail faster and move on quicker with less criticism—moving through change to get results and find new meaning to thrive and flourish.We will go through the 5-minute online reflective journal.
Session 2 – Compassion and Self-compassion— What does compassion for self and others mean to you? As foundational practices for the coming weeks, we will start to use the 3 main tools that you will be using over the coming weeks and months.
Session 3 – Recognising Your Negative Habitual Tendencies and Flow of Compassion. We’ll identify strategies to build on what you are good at so you can cope better and become more resilient with practical actions to make quick personal improvements.
Session 4 – Tools for Calm, Clarity and Motivation. Linking sessions 3 and 3, we will work together to move from difficulty, confusion and distraction to rest, clarity, awareness, and presence, harnessing your inner resources, including patience, resilience, and courage.
Session 5 – Focus, Clarity and Discernment Dealing in Change and Transition – Building on session 4, we will strengthen your focus, clarity and discernment to handle unplanned and unforeseen situations better.
Session 6 – Developing Communications with Self and Others – Building on your self-awareness and awareness of others. We will work on your ability to hear better and communicate more effectively in your day-to-day conversations. We will deal with tricky emotions, including the internalised “inner critic”. I will share techniques to harness your emotional intelligence and ways to ground yourself before navigating tough conversations.
Session 7 – Bringing it all together – In your review session, we appraise your progress. Together, we will share insights in the overview of your journey infographic from your digital diary. We will celebrate where your strengths are, the challenges you have overcome and the treasures and resources you have cultivated through your endurance, courage and commitment to your path. Bringing you the strength and insights to continue to apply this approach personally and professionally. Your tried and tested resources as your own personalised tool kit and treasure chest for your resilience and wellness.
Cost: £1950 includes an initial 1-hour consultation and 6 x 90-minute sessions. £250 deposit is required before the first session. Split payments are available by contract agreement.
Timescale: Your sessions are planned around your needs. Most clients meet weekly for the first few sessions, then fortnightly, and then 3-4 weeks for the remainder of the sessions, depending on what we are working with. Session 1’s one-hour consultation will be by phone or video conference. Compassionate Self-leadership Sessions can be online, face-to-face, or hybrid.
Sessions: Your sessions will be with elementas owner and founder Lou Booth. Lou holds a Master of Science in Mindfulness from Aberdeen University. Her specialist area of research is in applying Mindful Self-compassion to Leadership Coaching.
